Oh man my knees!

Well, tonight Josh and I had our monthly Mom and Son Night Out. We started in January to spend sometime just hanging out doing fun stuff, rather than all the time we spend together being parent/child and teacher/child. Tim's idea. It's working. I have to remind myself that it's about having some fun with my son and not trying to be an overbearing mother all the time.

Tonight we went to SkateWorld and Barnes & Noble. We hit the bookstore first and he got his present from me, a Dungeon's and Dragons game that apparently has just about everything he's been bugging me to buy for him but wouldn't. It comes from the way I was raised. It's just deep inside me that D&D is BAD (ummkay). So, I didn't find the book that I wanted at B&N, but did pick u a book on card games.

Then we went skating. My knees! My legs! but he has blisters and is just as tired. It was actually a lot of fun. I'm hoping that he'll want to do it again. We usually go to the movies. But I digress. One of the coolest things was that he asked for some money and qualified by saying that he wanted to buy something for me. He bought me a light-up rose and a dedication. How many moms can say that their son did a dedication for them while rolller-skating?! I didn't blush, but I did think it was pretty cool. It is nice when I can just relax and enjoy my son.

Well, I'm doing something right. Yesterday I finally caved into Josh's desire to visit K*B Toyworks and their "going out of Business" sale. They really were. The majority of the store was gone. But the really cool art, beyond the deals that we got on a few toys, was that Josh told me "Thank you, Mommy". The clerk said, "Wow, that's great. I see kids in here all the time and they never tell their parents 'Thank you'." I told her, "I must be doing something right, thank you". And Josh thanked me a few more times on the way out to the car. It's been a few months since he's had any new toys.
